206 x 154 mm. A view looking along an unidentified street in Suakin, the houses being of the Turkish pattern typical in Suakin, with ‘roshans’ (see Y3042A/6) and carved wooden decorations. The bazaar is situated almost in the centre of Suakin Island.

West Redoubt, 1885

197 x 150 mm. A view showing a sandbag fortification similar to Y3042A/9 but with a taller wooden lookout platform. A group of soldiers stands on and in front of the redoubt. Two cannons are in position facing out towards the desert and the whole emplacement is protected by a seriba of thorny mimosa.
