59 x 103 mm. Showing Admiral Sir Hugh Henry Darby Tothill (1865-1927), Commander-in-Chief, East Indies 1919-21 and Captain Sneyd (? Commander of H.M.S. Caroline) standing on the deck of a ship. Admiral Tothill visited Mauritius in July 1921 and at the end of the month Bell went to Rodrigues on the Caroline. This photograph was probably taken during the voyage.

130 x 80 mm. View of the HMS Talbot firing her guns. Bell went with the Talbot in early October 1916 to investigate reports of a German submarine and a suspicious ship at St Brandon. The print is signed by various crew members.

A scrapbook album containing prints relating to Bell's Governorship of Mauritius from his return from leave in 1919 to his final departure in 1924. There are also some scenes in east Africa and Britain during his 1919 leave and some of a visit to Ceylon (now known as Sri Lanka) in 1921.

66 watercolours, 150 x 200 mm in size. The captions, including the names of institutions, have been recorded as found and may include language which is offensive, inaccurate or inappropriate. They have been retained to reflect the context of the collection's creation. Notes provided by H.B. Thomas have been incorporated into the description.
Remains of the Emden
A collection of photographs of the wreck of the German Cruiser 'Emden', sunk by HMAS 'Sydney' whilst attacking the Cocos-Keeling Islands on 9 November 1914.
These photographs were extracted from the file in the RCS Archives on 'The Empire at War', edited for the Royal Empire Society by Sir Charles Lucas. References appear in volume III at pages 29, 76, 78, 212-3 and 223.
