Scope and Contents 172 x 114 mm. A view from the top storey of a building looking south-west along Church Street, Pietermartzburg. In the right foreground, at No. 22, are the premises of the wine and spirit merchant Edward Rance (1827-1876). This dates the picture to before 1879, by which year Rance is no longer featured in Vietzen (1963). He may have moved to these premises in 1975/6. This photograph was previously titled 'Durban, Natal', but 'Durban' has been crossed out by the original hand and...

200 x 142 mm. Showing the Town Hall, in Renaissance style, standing at the junction of Church Street and Commercial Road. Opened in 1901 by the Duke of Cornwall and York (later George V) during his visit to the city, the building replaced the previous Town Hall, destroyed by fire in 1898.
