191 x 127 mm. A view from the east bank of the Buffalo River looking towards the sea where work is in progress on the restraining walls and south breakwater. The crane 'Hercules', which arrived in East London in 1875, can be seen at the end of the breakwater. Railway lines run to the newly built wooden wharves in the foreground.
