Scope and Contents 302 x 215 mm. A loose uncaptioned print. A view looking down on the east side of the quay, where three large steamers are moored. Beyond the quay can be seen Government House and the Botanical Gardens, Farm Cove, and the naval deport on Garden Island. The turreted building behind the quay is in the place Fort Macquarie originally stored. The building seen here is actually the tram depot, completed in 1902. Scope and Contents A loose black and white print (two more prints missing), showing embarked troops waving to crowds on the dockside. A handwritten note on the back of the print states: 'Departure of A Battery, RAA, S.S. Warregal (for Boer War) left Port Jackson 30 Dec 1899'. The outbreak of the war on 11th October 1899 produced enthusiastic volunteering throughout the Australian colonies. A meeting in Melbourne in September 1899 had determined upon sending a joint contingent to number 2500 men in the event...
