There is also a letter to Robinson from Martin Charteris, 28 December 1953, enclosing a photograph, included in this collection, of the Queen's visit to his home. The letters and memorandum are undated typescript copies.

253 x 192 mm. A view looking over the valley from a thickly vegetated hillside, with two men sitting in the foreground. Gisborne, situated at the north shore of the Bay, was the spot where Captain Cook first set foot on New Zealand soil in October 1769. He gave the Bay its name after his welcome there, having to kill four Maoris after a hostile reception.

Scope and Contents A photocopy of a report in Maori by Parakaia Te Pouepa of a meeting of chiefs from Manawatu (Palmerston North), Waikanae, Otaki, Ngati Toa of Porirua, Waikato and Te Arawa (Roturua area) at Otaki on 17 September 1861. The meeting discussed the setting up of a Maori King in the Waikato Area. Most of the chiefs were opposed to this idea, and accepted Queen Victoria's representative, Colonel Thomas Gore Browne, as the chief of the country. They passed a motion that a letter should be written...
