288 x 242 mm. Showing the interior of Charlton and Meyer's stamp battery, with the stamps at the left and the driving machinery beyond. One of the leading gold mining partnerships in Johannesburg in the early days, Meyer and Charlton claimed to have installed the first battery (a small one of three stamps) actually on the reef: this was sold in 1888 and the machinery seen here is a later version.
