841 x 193 mm (three prints joined). Panoramic view of the town of Wu-chen with the river in the foreground. Situated 120 miles west of Canton near the border between Kwangsi and Kwantung Provinces, the town lies on the West River at the mouth of the Kwei River. It was not opened for foreign trade until 1897. This print is reproduced in Clark Worswick, 'Imperial China, photographs 1850-1912' (Pennwick/Crown 1978) pp. 18-19

Six of the panoramas are of Hong Kong, one of Canton, and one of Macau. The provenance of the panoramas is unknown, but they arrived in Cambridge University Library in 1993 as part of the Royal Commonwealth Society’s photographic collection.
