Stone River in the Falkland Islands, 1905

157 x 114 mm. Showing one of the strangest of natural phenomena in the islands, long lengths of broken quartzite rock which run along the surface of the landscape like rivers, and have been ascribed a number of origins from volcanic to glacial.

Sulivan House, June 1849, 1849

Scope and Contents A 220 x 140 mm watercolour of Sulivan House in June 1849, so named as the house was built for Captain Sulivan, later Admiral Sir Bartholomew James Sulivan KCB (1810-1890). Sulivan first visited the Falkland Islands for surveying purposes in command of the Arrow 1838-39, having earlier served as surveyor on HMS Beagle with Robert Fitz Roy.
