The date attribution, possibly before 1876, is based on the date attributed to an image in a comparable photograph album held by the Roots Collection, Singapore.

Scope and Contents 100 x 132 mm. Showing the massive 368 foot spire of the Shwe Dagon Pagoda, situated on a hill overlooking Rangoon. The original date of foundation of the temple is lost in myth, but the buildings assumed their present form in the 1560s. A pencilled annotation on the reverse of the print includes the additional phrase 'from North entrance'. The ink annotation on the reverse states 'Photo by J. Jackson, Rangoon'. The date attribution is based on the following observations: the Shwedagon...
