The Prince of Wales has not been positively identified: he may be hidden behind the foundation stone or he may possibly be one of the figures climbing the steps up to the marquee.

Mount Lavinia, nr Colombo [c 1875], 1875
197 x 148 mm. General view of the Mount Lavinia Hotel, some seven miles from Colombo. The main part of the hotel stands on a small headland overlooking the ocean with a single storied verandahed building, presumably providing additional accommodation. The main house was a two storey stone building with a balcony originally built for the Governor of Ceylon, Sir Edward Barnes.
