180 x 160 mm. The caption continues: 'These magnificent headdresses seen at a native dance are made from turkey feathers mounted on beautiful beadwork foundations. Notice the way in which the performers whiten their faces by the use of fine cerial flour.' A further handwritten caption partially obscured by the above identifies this occasion as H.H. the Sultans Silver Jubilee.

210 x 160 mm. The caption continues: 'First grade cloves. Note that all cloves have 'heads'. There are in fact the main parts of the flower bud (a mass of stamens enclosed in small bracts). If the clove bud opens before it is picked and dried then the clove will have lost its 'head' and the quality of the sample reduced.'

'Her gala costume consists of a head-dress of coloured silk made up into a kind of extravagant turban or mob-cap... Her body is decorously and elaborately clothed in patterned and coloured fabrics of varying qualities... ' (Pearce 1920).
