Scope and Contents From the File: Contains slides of St Lucia. The majority are of views of scenery, many from the sea or from the air (two sequences in February 1971 and September 1972). There is not much relating to Marnham's work, though his official house in Castries is shown in February 1971. Among events which are shown are: a youth rally at Vieux Fort on 1 May 1971 and 11 scenes at the Castries Carnival of 1972. Slides have been renumbered but arrangement in the file remains as per the original typescript...

87 x 88 mm. A view looking down on the experimental agricultural plantation established privately by Bell in 1900 on thirty acres of Crown land about six miles from Roseau. The project is described in Bell (1946), pp 29-31, and its progress mentioned many times in Bell's letters.

The Bell Jetty, 1912-07

Scope and Contents 129 x 79 mm. A view looking along the jetty at Roseau which is decorated with flags in honour of Bell's visit to Dominica in July 1912. At the end of the jetty stands an arch with messages of welcome from the Dominica Guardian, the Voice of Dominica and the people of Dominica: 'Lovely weather and everything propitious for the reception which the good folk gave me. The Administrator, Mr. Young, and good old Porter came off to the ship and we all went ashore together. The harbour was full...

The Brothers Est., Grenada, 1890 - 1893

286 x 224 mm. A view showing the working premises on the Brothers Estate, set among lush vegetation in the hills of St John's parish, north of St George's. This estate, owned by the donor of the album (refer to originator details), was of about 590 acres and seems to have yielded a far richer output of cocoa, spices, coffee, nuts and sugar than many of the larger estates. See production figures for 1894 in Drayton (1896), pp 11-12.

The Cathedral, 1912

278 x 200 mm. A view from the road looking up towards the twin-towered west façade of the Cathedral of St. John's, Antigua. The building replaces the earlier church which was destroyed by an earthquake in 1843. The corner stone of the later building was laid in 1845 and the cathedral opened for worship in 1847 although not completed until the following year.
