Scope and Contents

The principal part of the collection is a set of programmes and guides prepared for the different legs of the Royal Tour. These are supplemented by related correspondence and papers compiled by the Royal Empire Society and others. The collection is in English with the exception of one item in English and Arabic.

Scope and Contents Panoramic view of the Grand Harbour, taken from the northern (Valletta) side, probably the Upper Barracca Gardens, and comprising five juxtaposed prints (1,433 x 200 mm overall). The left and right-hand prints bear the embossed stamp 'S.I. Scope and Contents

A collection of albumen prints which include views of the Middle East, Malta and Gibraltar by Robertson, Beato and others. The majority are of European works of arts and townscapes (many of the latter unidentified). There are also scenes at Woolwich. Plates 68-80 are uncaptioned and consist of miscellaneous engravings of weaponry, armour and archaeological sites.

Panorama of Grand Harbour, Valletta, 1860s

Scope and Contents A panoramic view of Grand Harbour composed of three joined prints, linen backed and measuring in total 861 x 199 mm. The panorama forms part of the collection of General Edward Charles Frome (1802-1890) of the Royal Engineers and was probably acquired by him during his period of service in Gibraltar as C.R.E. from 1862-68. This view is taken from the ramparts of Valletta, probably from somewhere in the vicinity of the Upper Barracca Gardens, and looks south across Grand Harbour. Kalkara...
