244 x 191 mm. A view looking along a path in the gardens with trees and shrubs either side. Situated just below Government House and founded in 1763, the gardens are the oldest in the New World. Bligh's voyage to the South Seas in HMS 'Bounty' in 1787, which ended in mutiny, was made in order to supply the gardens with the breadfruit tree.

A modern caption on the reverse of the print states 'The Last family of true Caribs - St. Vincent 1915 (?)' The date here is certainly wrong , but the rest of the information may well be correct. Formerly dependent on sugar, by the early 1900s the island's economy had switched to a reliance on cotton and arrowroot.

A sharply defined view from a hillside behind the town, looking along the bay and showing the town and harbour with steamers at anchor in the deeper water and smaller sailing boats closer inshore. At the far end of the bay the landing pier can be seen, with the police barracks partially obscured by other buildings.

150 x 113 mm. A view looking down in to the smoking crater of La Soufrière, a volcano situated in the north-central area of St. Vincent. This photograph was presumably taken some time around May 1902 when the eruption of the volcano caused great devastation and loss of life.
