A collection of numbered prints, unless otherwise stated measuring circa 210 x 160 mm, in a 19 page typescript volume entitled 'Barotseland', written and illustrated by Max Gluckman. His typescript is undated but the illustrations closely resemble, and in some cases are identical with, those used in Gluckman (1945) of which a photocopy is filed with this collection. This detailed five part printed panorama of Freetown, Sierra Leone, was created in 1847 by Mrs Terry, the wife of the Assistant Superintendent of the Liberated Africans. Four of the prints are views from her upstairs windows in the Church Missionary Grammar School house, formerly the resident of the Assistant Superintendents. The fifth is a view of the town and harbour from the promontory of King Tom's point. Each print measures 2' 2'' by 10''. Terry had her sketches lithographed and sold...
