A view from near The Cedars, a house on the hill overlooking the SW portion of the lake, looking eastwards towards St Thomas' Church, with the Willow Bund and town beyond, and Dodabet in the distance. A petition for a new church to ease the overcrowding in St Stephen's had been made by the citizens of Ootacamund as early as 1853, but it was not until 1867 that sufficient finances had been raised and the foundation stone was laid. The church was completed in October 1870 and...

A figure is posed in the foreground looking out over the view. Lambsknowe House was situated on the spur of a hill to the NE of the town, a little to the S of Government House. Part of Ottley Road can be seen at the extreme left of the print.
