Raikes, who went out to meet the Aga Khan, and dignitaries of the Khofa Ismaili community. The ship the group travelled in from Mombasa, the S.S. ‘Bohemia’, can be seen at anchor in the harbour. Smith and the staff of the ETC which is reported in the ‘Zanzibar Gazette’ for March 1st 1905. A.S. Rogers, in informal clothes, sits at the head of the gathering. No other figures have been identified. The entertainment consisted of songs and music followed by ‘Crazed’ a ‘musical trifle… rendered in faultless style and real artistic...

A handwritten caption on a piece of paper accompanying the image reads: 'Baobab trees; a familiar sight in areas of East Africa so dry that trees have developed their own method of storing moisture. Notice the bare, stony appearance of the ground, and the bare outcrops of rock on the distant hill.'
