284 x 229 mm. A view showing an army of Egyptian labourers quarrying granite for the dam. The work is entirely manual; the rock, broken with picks, is being carried up wooden walkways to the top of the quarry where it is loaded into railway trolleys.

285 x 227 mm. A view looking along the western or Rosetta Barrage, a brick and stone construction surmounted by turreted towers on the roadway across. The construction, situated at the divide of the Nile north of Cairo, was designed to keep the water of the Nile level at all seasons and do away with the old irrigation machinery (Y3041B/30 and 31).
