Scope and Contents 208 x 229 mm. A view looking down from the dam onto work in progress in a section of the reservoir. In the crowded scene labourers are at work quarrying granite either for the strengthening operation on the northern bed of the dam or in connection with the heightening of the dam which took place between 1907 and 1912.

Bab el Kebir, 1906-04-20

Scope and Contents 284 x 229 mm. A view showing an army of Egyptian labourers quarrying granite for the dam. The work is entirely manual; the rock, broken with picks, is being carried up wooden walkways to the top of the quarry where it is loaded into railway trolleys.
