The captions printed under the photographs have been copied including some eccentric spelling.

A group portrait of members of the Perak State Council, composed of the Sultan, the British Resident, the Secretary to the Resident and various prominent members of the Malay and Chinese communities. The Sultan, Raja Alang Iskander Shah, is seated in the centre of the group with C.W.C. Parr beside him while the Residents Secretary (unidentified) stands with the Chinese and Malay members in the back row.

Memorial to Captain Light, Penang, 1930 - 1939

Scope and Contents 62 x 88 mm. Showing the statue of Captain Francis Light (1740-1794), founder of Prince of Wales Island (Penang) in 1786. Light died of malaria on the island and was buried in the old Protestant Cemetery in Northam Road, George Town. The bronze statue designed by Frederick J. Wilcoxson, was originally sited in Fort Cornwallis and was unveiled in 1939. It was removed during the Japanese occupation and re-erected in 1946 in front of the High Court in Light Street. Newscuttings on Africa and South East Asia

The principal part of the collection is a set of thirteen scrapbooks of newscuttings relating to East Africa, particularly Kenya and Tanganyika. The rest of the collection consists of a volume of cuttings relating to post-war trading opportunities in Nigeria and three scrapbooks concerning rubber and mining in South East Asia.

Newscuttings on the Straits Settlements

Scope and Contents A scrapbook of cuttings from newspapers of the Straits Settlements concerning events in the colony. Much of the volume is concerned with Brown's involvement with the Legislative Council. There are articles regarding his disputed nomination by the Penang Chamber of Commerce in 1893, and his appointment to the Council in 1894 and 1897. There is also extensive coverage of the Council’s work, including newscuttings on the passage of bills regarding harbours, Indian immigration, liquor, opium...
