Scope and Contents 40 x 65 mm. (Vignetted oval). A carte de visite head and shoulders, three quarters profile studio portrait of the missionary and British official John Smith Moffatt C.M.G (1835-1918), the son of Robert Moffatt. Born at Kuruman, Moffat went to England in 1850 and was ordained and accepted by the L.M.S. in 1857. In the event however he returned to Africa as a freelance missionary and worked, with little success in Matabeleland and Inyati from 1868-63. He had rejoined the L.M.S. in 1864...
