The High Bridge, twelfth Century, 1930 - 1937

135 x 85 mm. The High Bridge, built over the Witham in Lincoln is one of the few mediaeval bridges in England with houses still upon it. The bridge is of a fine ribbed Norman Arch 22 foot span, dating 1160. The dark vault beneath, formerly named "The Murder Hole" now bears the romantic title of "The Glory Hole."

Scope and Contents 245 x 190 mm. The Imperial Press Union, now the Commonwealth Press Union, was founded in 1909 and held a series of conferences at five yearly intervals. The fourth of these was held in London in 1930 and was opened by the Prime Minister, the Right Honourable J. Ramsay MacDonald. The photograph shows Mr MacDonald standing behind a table on the right; to the left is the front row of participants, with Sir Campbell Stuart and Sir Harry Brittain prominent in the centre.
