Treasury, Taiping circa 1882, 1882

Scope and Contents 246 x 188 mm (mounted on card). A view looking between palm trees towards the Treasury, a whitewashed stone building with tiled roof. This does not correspond with the description of Isabella Bird which describes the building in 1879 as a substantial dark wood building (Bird, 1883, p. 280) and therefore presumably is the new Treasury and Audit Offices offices, built 1884-1885 at a cost of $10, 000 (See Further correspondence respecting the Protected Malay States (c. 4958 of 1887, p....
