St Andrew's replaced Singapore's first church (built 1834-1838) and was designed by Colonel Macpherson, the Executive Engineer. The foundation stone was laid in March 1856 and the church, built by convicts under the supervision of J.F.A. McNair, was completed by the end of 1860. It was opened for use in October 1861 and consecrated in January 1962 [sic]. A tower had...
