Scope and Contents Album of photographs of various sizes with one loose one inserted. A note by the donor E. Walker states that the photographs, ‘were taken mostly by one of the brothers Logan of Penang, members of the legal profession and after one of whom Logan Road, Penang was named. The name is (or was) associated with the legal firm of Logan, Ross and Samuels, Penang.’ The plates have hand-written captions, which have been recorded as found. Immediately in the foreground is a characteristic piece of swamp : alluvial deposit brought down by the river, covered with tropical jungle, and often stretching for miles on each side. Quite typical Borneo scene.

215 x 167 mm. View looking over the buildings of the town towards the harbour, where sailing vessels are moored. The port is situated on Cebu Island on the Bohol Strait 350 miles south-est of Manila. Founded in 1565 as San Miguel, it was the site of the first permanent Spanish settlement in the Philippines.
