362 x 265 mm. A view looking down on the road which runs through a rocky gorge across two small stone bridges. Milton lies near the coast south west of Dunedin and this road follows the Clutha River north west up to Alexandra.

352 x 266 mm. A view from the river bank towards the road bridge, a laminated wood superstructure resting on stone piers. The caption adds ‘Centre span of this bridge is 178 feet’. Roxburgh lies about halfway between Lawrence and Alexandra.

360 x 256 mm. A view looking along the valley, with the railway bridge in the foreground, and a few farming settlements scattered on either side of the road. Additional information on the caption states: ‘The bridge in foreground is over the South Tokomairiro River. Its total length, 180 feet, comprising three spans of 60 feet, on masonry piers and abutments. It was designed by John Caruthers, Esq, Engineer in Chief of New Zealand, and built by Messrs. Campbell and Co. in 1873’.
