All the photographs in this album were taken by me, on a safari from Victoria (B. Cameroons) to Port Sudan. This journey lasted from April 7/35 till August 2/36. Letters in German from Austrian Consuls-General at Cairo and their agents at Khartoum dealing with events in Southern Sudan, including the work of the Vicariate of Central Africa, consular returns from Khartoum and provisional instructions for the Consulate at Khartoum, c. 170 pages. The letters were transcribed from originals in the Östereichisches Staatsarchiv in Vienna by Richard Gray for his 'A history of Southern Sudan' (1961).

Ponsonby, 8 February 1939, presenting the letters to the R.C.S., and the Librarian's reply, 9 February 1939.
