Sister Teresa was at the Convent in Dilling, five days march south of El Obeid and was captured by Mahdist forces under Mek Omar in September 1882. During her captivity in Omdurman, the Khalifa ordered that all women should be married. All the photographs in this album were taken by me, on a safari from Victoria (B. Cameroons) to Port Sudan. This journey lasted from April 7/35 till August 2/36. The photographs are of anthropological interest only, and deal mostly with the Mangbetu tribe in the northern Congo; the Karamojong in Northern Uganda, and various tribes in the southern Sudan.
