On the taller, known as a Belawing, the heads of enemies are hung temporarily; on the shorter, pieces of dried human flesh have been fastened by means of skewers, as offerings to the omen birds in this case, hawks. Scope and Contents 145 x 95 mm. Showing a group of Sakai tribesmen, some with blowpipes, others carrying sacks of produce: Damar - a Resin produced by certain large forest trees (dammara). Dennys (1894) provides the following description. It sometimes exudes so as to form lumps, either on the trunk or beneath the surface, to the weight of ten or twenty pounds. Incisions are also made in the bark whence the gum is collected. It is pounded up and filled into palm sheath tubes called upei, about 18 inches...
