Scope and Contents From the Fonds: A collection of loose prints, lantern slides and glass negatives. The prints mostly relate to Westgate’s earlier work, but there are a few from the 1930s, including nos. 426-454 of visits to South Africa and African islands, all processed in February 1936. The captions have been used as titles and may contain offensive, inappropriate or outdated terms. They have been retained to reflect the context of their creation. Many of the lantern slides and glass negatives are uncaptioned and...

106 x 81 mm. Although dated about 1908, this appears to be a slightly later view than the other pictures of the Mission House, since the building has been whitewashed, the thatch of the roof is in better order and the garden has been cleared and laid out.

110 x 90 mm. Showing a Bukeddi man seated on the wooden steps leading up to his small hut. The photograph was used as the inspiration for a double page drawing in The Illustrated London News of September 25 1909. The text, quoting Bell, explains how the young men of the village are shut in their huts at night and the ladders removed to prevent them roaming.

Showing Frank Burton repairing his bicycle beside the road. Several sections of the 1907 tour were completed on bicycle by Bell and Burton ('25th January. The road from the frontier to Mbarara was in excellent order and we were able to cycle almost the whole way ...', Bell (1946), page 151).
