The tents of the Black Watch can be seen between the mountains and town: 'The houses seemed to be piled one above another in this Kerynian group, and the roofs look like platforms common to the whole town. Indeed, it sometimes happens that the roofs join one to the other so as to form an agreeable promenade where friends may stroll at eventide and study...

Kolossi Castle, 1965

Scope and Contents 231 x 172 mm. Showing the square tower of this ancient castle originally in the possession of the Knights of St. John of Jerusalem. The caption on the reverse of the photograph reads: 'Near Limassol. Dating probably back to 1210 when granted by Hugh I to the Order of the Knights of St. John of Jerusalem. Later passed into the hands of the Knight Templars and later to the Hospitallers, who held three 'commanderies' in Cyprus. Hence the famous wines of Cyprus bear until now the name of...

The first 33 slides in the collection are Ektachromes numbered 501-533 by Marnham. They relate to a a very small area of the island, Kyrenia on the north coast, St Hilarion Castle on the heights behind the town, and Bellapais about 3 miles along the coast. In addition there are 5 Ektachromes of Curium on the south-west coast. These are stamped Sep [19]61 and arranged by processing number.
