Two men can be seen on a railroad trolley at the left of the photograph. Salmon Arm lies at the southernmost corner of Lake Shuswap, about 20 miles south-west of the Sicamous Narrows.

At the far right of the print can be seen the narrowly separated cliffs of Hellgate rapids, just north of the Black Canyon. It was through this narrow channel that Onderdonk, financially straitened by freight charges on the Cariboo Road, determined to send his supplies by steamboat. This was in the Spring of 1882. It was the first visit by a reigning British monarch to the country. These photographs feature ceremonies held at the docks, Parliament and Beacon Hill.
