A 42-page album of black and white photographs, measuring 240 x 320 mm, attached with photograph corners and interleaved with tissue. Some have written captions on flimsy paper stuck in. This album was given to Miss Pearce Simmons, Adviser to the Principal, Community Health Nurses School, Akim Oda, Ghana, perhaps on her retirement. 150 x 200 mm. One of the Red Cross Tableaux 1917. Identified in a contemporary hand as Mr Bettington. Digby Rowland Albemarle Bettington (b. 1879) served in the South African and Great Wars. After police posts in Cyprus and Sierra Leone, he was appointed Deputy Commissioner of Police, Gold Coast, in 1910 and promoted to Inspector-General in 1917. See also Y30448L/66.

Scope and Contents 150 x 200 mm. One of the items in the Tableaux arranged in aid of the Red Cross by Lady Clifford in 1917. Her efforts for the Red Cross in 1917 also included a procession of over 3,000 costumed children, and a gymkhana meeting. In 1918 she edited a book ‘Our Days on the Gold Coast’ containing essays on the events of one day submitted by a wide variety of the Colony's inhabitants, and published in aid of the Red Cross.
