A seated, three-quarter length studio portrait of Sir Philip Edmond Wodehouse (1811-1887), Governor of the Cape 1852-1870. Wodehouse's career started as a writer in Ceylon [Sri Lanka] in 1828 where he served until 1850. During 1851-1854 he was Superintendent in British Honduras and Governor of British Guiana during 1854-1861. After leaving the Cape he was Governor of Bombay 1872-1877.
