260 x 200 mm. A view down the street, which was at this time predominantly residential, with tramlines and a horse tram in the distance. North Terrace lies directly south of and parallel to the River Torrens and has always been a sought-after area of Adelaide. The building nearest the camera is the Adelaide Club House, designed by E.A. Hamilton and completed in 1864.

Scope and Contents This notebook has no formal title, but its introductory note is headed 'Townsville Cleveland Bay, Queensland, August 31 1885'. It is signed by Charles Price (1842-1926), a draper of Townsville. The volume contains 172 pages of vocabulary, compiled over 16 years of collecting, with Aboriginal words in alphabetical order on the left hand page and English translations on the right. 'Notes on the eucalyptus globulus or Australian blue gum tree', 8 pages. There is a covering letter from William Bell to C.W. Eddy, Secretary of the Royal Colonial Institute, dated 9 June (no year), 1 page; an undated letter to Eddy from a colleague (the signature is illegible) who had read Bell's manuscript, 2 pages; and a press cutting commenting on the eucalyptus. The latest date referred to in the text in 1872. As Mr Eddy died in October 1874, the paper must date from 1873 or 1874.
