Scope and Contents From the Sub-Fonds: Fifty-three undated watercolours intended as bookmarks, each 200 x 45 mm in size, sold by John Sands of Sydney as indicated by stickers pasted onto the reverse. The images are of birds, with the exception of two koala bears, two kangaroos and one opossum. The vast majority are the work of three authors, signed Artah, M. Simpson and Koddi. Artah is Violet Artah Bartlett, an artist specialising in Australian ornithology who worked in Sydney during the 1920s. It has proved impossible as yet...

Hornsby Light, Sydney, 1885

190 x 140 mm. A view of the lighthouse on a cliff, with the harbour beyond. A thirty foot high tower, painted in red and white vertical stripes, the building was erected at Inner South Head in 1858 and named after Admiral Sir Phipps Hornsby, Commander-in-Chief of the British Pacific Fleet in the 1860's.

230 x 180 mm. A notice by the gate informs us that visiting days were Sunday, Wednesday and Saturday from 2 till 5 p.m. The hospital is now in the centre of the city. In 1867, when it was opened, there was anger at its being built so far out of town.

180 x 140 mm. Showing the derrick with people, traps and horses grouped around. From the derrick fly two flags, the Union Jack, and another on which the lettering is too blurred to be decipherable. Probably taken during a fair or exhibition to judge by the tents and marquees in the distance.
