A wide range of papers relating to Gouger and his career in South Australia and correspondence with the R.C.S. regarding the collection. The papers are accompanied by 'Royal Commonwealth Society library notes', no. 65, May 1962, including 'Early days in South Australia' (pp. 1-3), which describes the collection.

The collection also includes undated xerox copies of the following items: the catalogue entry for the original watercolour in the Mitchell Library, Sydney; a letter to Miss P.
