Half-plate. From one side of the dry dock, Halifax, N.S. On the left is seen the warehouse wherein the sugar is stored. Raw sugar from British West Indies is principally refined here. This refinery employs about 250 men, and its output is about 150 tons per day.

A view showing the burnt out hull of the American steamer ‘Roraima’ in St Pierre Harbour, with clouds of smoke billowing from the summit of Mount Pelée in the distance. Hesketh Bell, who had intended to make a brief visit to Martinique to inspect the damage, had a lucky escape here, having originally intended to travel down to St Pierre in the ‘Roraima’.
