221 x 169 mm. A view looking up towards the front façade of this impressive hotel which was built by the Bahamas Government and opened in 1861. The hotel stands on a small hill between Parliament Street and East Street.

The fire on Dec 11 1882 destroyed some 570 houses in the commercial district of Kingston, leaving 6000 homeless and causing damage estimated at £220,000. This was twenty years after a fire of 1862 had caused similar damage to the same area. See also
