Scope and Contents 191 x 236 mm. A view from a little below Glacier Point, showing Lily Langtry in silhouette standing on the small finger of rock which reaches out over the valley. The picture looks out across the valley, with the Half Dome (8852 feet) at the left of the picture, and snow-capped peaks of the Sierra Nevada in the distance. Lily Langtry’s presence in the photograph would date it to between 1882-3, at which time she went on her tour of America having become a professional actress the year before...

The Valley from Mariposa Trail, Yosemite, Cal, 1885

307 x 202 mm. A view looking through trees and along the length of the valley, showing the sheer rock faces that tower above the valley. El Capitan can be seen at the left of the picture with a waterfall opposite which falls into the Merced River in the valley, and with Half Dome in the distance.

‘Wawona’ 28 feet diameter, 275 feet high Mariposa Grove, 1885

203 x 305 mm. A view of the base of Wawona, the famous Sequoia tree through which a hole measuring 11 feet by 8 feet has been cut. A coach is passing through the hole, while two couples pose at either side of the tree. Mariposa Grove situated in the Yosemite National Park, contains about 200 giant Sequoia.
