232 x 276 mm. This picture was presumably taken about the time of the statue’s completion in 1874, since the inscription seen in later photographs has not yet been carved on the plinth. For a note on the statue, see Y3022BB/26.

Steam ferry, Prai River, Penang, 1884

Showing the raft ferry, powered by a steam engine and protected by a roof above the open sides, on the Prai River, which debouches, on the Port Wellesley mainland near Butterworth, opposite George Town. On the raft itself are two Europeans in white uniforms, two hack gharries and a number of other passengers. A photograph probably taken in 1884 on completion of improvements to the Prai ferry.
