Scope and Contents From the Fonds: A series of thirty-two photographs taken by Douglas Moore in 1949, depicting views and aspects of the lives and conditions of the inhabitants of Hong Kong. The photographs were printed and mounted for an exhibition at the North Staffordshire Polytechnic in the 1980s. The average size of each print (inner mount measurement) is 290 mm x 360 mm. Steam ferry, Prai River, Penang, 1884

Showing the raft ferry, powered by a steam engine and protected by a roof above the open sides, on the Prai River, which debouches, on the Port Wellesley mainland near Butterworth, opposite George Town. On the raft itself are two Europeans in white uniforms, two hack gharries and a number of other passengers. A photograph probably taken in 1884 on completion of improvements to the Prai ferry.
