Scope and Contents The mural was the work of Mick Pilcher (born 1929) whose work included murals in the University of Ibadan, the Parliament Buildings in Lusaka, and the Anglo-American Corporation Building in Lusaka. The RCS mural showed the flags of the Commonwealth, each within the geographical outline of their country: all were of equal size to indicate equality of status. Space was left for additions, but these were never made, and as the mural became soiled and unsightly it was eventually removed. 155 x...

Napoleon's Tomb, St Helena, 1884-01-16 - 1884-01-22

139 x 211 mm. Showing the tombstone, surrounded by metal railings, in Sane Valley (also known as Geranium Valley) where there was a spring from which Napoleon ordered his drinking water to be collected. Hiscorpse was placed in four coffins, one of tin, one of mahogany, one of lead and another of mahogany with the result that when the body was removed for reburial in France in 1840 it was in almost perfect condition.
