Scope and Contents This is a collection of art work created by the Royal Engineer Edward Charles Frome (1802-1890). In 1929 Frome’s surviving daughter, Mrs Frank Wynne, presented some of the South Australian drawings to the Royal Empire Society through the good offices of Sir Harry Wilson, to whom she bequeathed the rest of the collection. There are also 5 slides of Tobago and one of Jamaica not numbered by him, but clearly identifiable by the processing number and probably omitted on account of inferior quality or repetitive subject. They are inserted at appropriate points. Eleven slides (numbers 23-28), 29-31, 33-35) are in Kodak Readymount frames without processing numbers and since several show John Ewart Marnham and Susan Marnham it is...

Scope and Contents 200 x 146 mm. Showing huge numbers of nesting wideawakes (sooty terns) on Wideawake Plain, with a figure standing among them in the background. The breeding ground of these terns formed a valuable source of food for the naval garrison in the nineteenth century, who took thousands of eggs each year during ythe breeding season; these depredations do not appear to have posed any problems to the bird's survival however, and they were a considerable danger as they nested in their thousands...
