152 x 107mm. Caption continues ‘He was for many years Chaplain to the troops’. A view looking towards a clearing among pine trees with pitched tents, and a clerical figure (presumably Rev. Ferguson) seated in the centre. Mt. Troodos, the ancient Mt. Olympus, is situated about 30 miles south-west of Nicosia and was the summer seat of the Cyprus Government.

147 x 104 mm. Showing a bearded clergyman and a stout elderly lady seated on a garden bench beneath a conifer. The man certainly bears a family resemblance to Ernest Gedge and there are several other portraits (largely unprinted) of the couple. The probability that these are Gedge’s parents is strong.

58 x 95 mm. carte de visite portrait of Armstrong. Listerlin is a village in South Kilkenny, but no longer appears in Crockford as an Anglican Parish. Edward George Armstrong, born in Clare, entered Trinity College Dublin in 1811 aged 17, according to Burchaell and Sadleir, p.19.

Scope and Contents Collection of five albums of family photographs, made up almost entirely of amateur snapshots between 80 x 60 mm. and 110 x 150 mm., and many of which are of purely personal interest. However, taken as a whole, they comprise a record of aspects of life in Rhodesia and elsewhere in Africa of interest to the social historian. The albums are carefully annotated by Zöe Ellison towards the end of her life (she died in Cambridge on 4 August 1986, only a fortnight after her last letter to the RCS...
