The man certainly bears a family resemblance to Ernest Gedge and there are several other portraits (largely unprinted) of the couple. The probability that these are Gedge’s parents is strong.

It explores his association with the East Midland towns of Stamford, Nottingham and Oakham, where the family had a silk manufacturing business. A letter filed with the article contains some information regarding RCMS 278/30 Watercolour of Robert Gouger's residence.
