Daily entries, beginning on 13 July when the ship left Plymouth travelling towards Madeira, in company with the Resolution. Bayly begins with an observation on latitudes taken at Drake's Island and Plymouth. His log entries contain many notes on sea conditions, while entries for 22-24 July include lunar observations from which he calculates longitude from Greenwich [RGO 14/56: 5r-5v]. On 21 July he observes that the ship passed Cape Portugal, approaching Madeira on 28 July.
