Seventeen letters from Captain Matthew Flinders, his brother Lieutenant Samuel Ward Flinders, the astronomer John Crosley, Captain Thomas Hurd and the Astronomer Royal, John Pond. Also included are copies of relevant minutes of the Board of Longitude, a proposal by Captain Flinders that the whole of the calculations for the voyage should be calculated, and a petition by Samuel Ward Flinders for remuneration for work he had done on the observations.

'To clear the distance of the Moon from a star from the effects of refraction and parallax', February 1766. The envelope includes copies of reports made to the Board of Longitude by John Howe, undated, and M. Raper of Thorley Hall, 9 July 1765, on the method of Israel Lyons and George Witchell for correcting observed distances. There are also a number of tables on the Sun's parallax.

A collection of papers by Evan John Hobden who worked at the Chronometer Department, Herstmonceux and had a strong interest in marine chronometers. The records include John's handwritten notes on marine chronometer sales; his records of the sale and advertising of chronometers between 1972 and 1987; annotated Sotheby's catalogues for 1982 chronometer sales; and pamphlets on the RGO Chronometer Department and the Salisbury Medieval Clock.
