Ainslie, took up the post of Medical Officer of Health, Penang. Shaw was born in May 1941. She recounts how she and her mother Marcia Margaret Ainslie were evacuated from Penang to Singapore, and then Java, after Penang was bombed by the Japanese in December 1941; their travel from Java to Western Australia in January...

An unpublished account of the role of the early district officer in Kenya and the problems inherent in implementing policy, with illustrations and maps, 501 pages. There is a five-page survey of sources, but only limited source references. The book was written with the financial support of the Department of Technical Cooperation, which enabled Cashmore to spend two years on research and writing, one of which was spent in Kenya. The volume is dated at the front October 1964.
