Album of coastal profiles

Scope and Contents Fifty-eighty pages of sepia drawings (12" x 6"), with captions and dates. The drawings give latitude and longitude, and appear to be competent renderings of coast profiles. The places featured include the Cape Verde Islands, Trinidad, Table Bay (including plan), Ceylon, Malaya and the East Indies, Macao, Sunda Straits, St Helena, Ascension and Britain. Asphalt Lakes, Trinidad

Scope and Contents

A collection of photographs mounted on card, measuring approximately 205 x 155 mm., with brief typed captions pasted to the mounts. The collection shows stages in the extraction, transportation and refining of pitch from the asphalt lake at La Brea, in the south-west corner of the Island. Raleigh used the pitch from this lake to caulk his ships as early as 1585, declaring it to be the best he had ever used.

Life in Trinidad

Scope and Contents

Collection of colour 35 mm transparencies given by the High Commission for Trinidad in August 1982. When planning the exhibition 'Commonwealth in Focus' the library requested material from Commonwealth Governments and these slides were sent in response. A continuous slide show was prepared to portray contemporary aspects of the countries of the Commonwealth and nine of these slides were copied for inclusion. The image descriptions are copied from the list supplied with the slides.

Scope and Contents An album containing photographs measuring 90 x 65 mm., inserted four to a page, with four unused spaces. Four (8/8A, 26/43, 31/38 and 51/52) are duplicates. The clothes and aeroplane shown in 45 and 47 suggest a date about 1930. The majority of the photographs are landscapes and general scenes, and as 3-6, 8-9, 11, 13-15, 18, 21-22, 26, 30-32, 34-35, 37-40, 43 have ‘Trinidad’ printed with the photograph - 5 and 11 also have titled - it seems probable that most of the collection was...
